Judge David P. Bowles was elected Judge of the Jefferson District Court in 2008. Before his election to the bench, Judge Bowles was a partner with Landrum & Shouse, LLP, in Louisville, Kentucky, where he concentrated on public sector insurance defense, civil rights defense, employment law and probate matters. His former clients included police officers, jailers, and local governments across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Judge Bowles retired at the rank of Lieutenant in 2001 from the Jefferson County Police Department in Louisville, Kentucky, after having served previously as a Patrol Officer, Staff Services Officer, Narcotics Detective, and Patrol Sergeant. He also served as a Field Training Officer and Crisis Negotiator during his tenure as a police officer.
He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association, and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 614. A former member of the District Judges Association Education Committee, Judge Bowles serves on the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission and the Chief Justice’ Pretrial Judicial Committee.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Louisville, earning a B.S. in Police Administration, and a cum laude graduate of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, Judge Bowles lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his family.
