Don Armstrong is a Louisville native and a graduate of Waggener High School, Vanderbilt University, and the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. Before becoming a Judge, he practiced law in the law firm of Smith & Armstrong, Attorneys for 23 years. During that time he was also a part-time Assistant Jefferson County Attorney for 8 years. Since 1999, Judge Armstrong has served as a District Court Judge in Division 5 of the Jefferson District Court. He has served two terms as Chief Judge in District Court, and he currently is the President of the Kentucky District Judges Association, having been unanimously elected as President by every District Judge in the state. In 2006, the Louisville Bar Association named Don "Judge of the Year." He has consistently had the highest ratings in bar polls of attorneys who are members of the LBA when they rate the District Judges. He was influential in the implementation of the use of computers in the courtrooms and he was an early champion of the Kentucky e-warrant system, which allows Judges to sign arrest warrants, criminal summons, and EPOs from their cell phones, iPads, or laptops, ensuring the safety of the citizens of Jefferson County and Kentucky.
