Robert "Bob" Silverthorn

Bob Silverthorn has been engaged in the private practice of law for over thirty years.  He graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law (having received the Constitutional Law Book Award) in December1974, and was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1975, at which time he commenced his general practice of law.  Bob has handled both criminal and civil cases, trying cases to jury verdicts in both venues.  His varied legal practice has included trying felony murder and significant civil cases, as well as land disputes, real estate closings, contested probate matters, divorces, bankruptcies, misdemeanors, traffic, land-lord tenant disputes, corporate, tax, workers compensation, social security, unemployment, personal injury, products liability and complex contract litigation.

 Bob Silverthorn is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts of Eastern and Western Kentucky, Southern Indiana, Northern Ohio, and Southern Texas; the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Southern Texas; the U.S. Tax Court; the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court; and has handled matters in each. 

While in law school he served as the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary/Treasurer of the Sinking Fund, and after graduation served on the Louisville-Jefferson County Energy Commission and as the Court’s staff person for the Louisville-Jefferson County Crime Commission. 

Bob Silverthorn is a Viet Nam veteran, having served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.  He served over 35 years in the U.S. Army (both active duty and reserve) retiring in 2005 as a Major General, having commanded two Army Reserve Divisions.  His military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, Air Medal and seven Meritorious Service Medals. 

Bob Silverthorn has devoted numerous hours to other civic and professional organizations.  He has served as the Chair of the Civil Litigation Section of the Kentucky Bar Association, Vice-Chair of the Real Estate Committee of the American Bar Association and has been a long time member of the Louisville Bar Association.  He also has served on the University of Louisville Law School Alumni Board, the Board of the DePaul School, the former Louisville Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Commission and is the past President of Rotary Club of Jeffersontown, Kentucky and past Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6710.  He has chaired the Louisville Armed Forces Day Committee, been president of the Association of the Century (100th Division), and presently serves as president of the Hurstbourne Village Office Park condominium association. 

Bob Silverthorn is a pilot and enjoys working on lowering his golf handicap.  He is married to Rusti, a native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and has two children, three grandchildren and eight godchildren. He is member of Christ Church United Methodist.
